Corruption, poverty, police brutality and domestic violence are a daily reality in the life of kids and adolescents in the marginal areas of Guatemala City. Many kids don’t have the confidence in and the hope for a better future. This makes them an easy victim for gangs, which are offering them self-confidence, identity and the illusion of protection.
AGH Trasciende wants to give them an alternative by way of a breakdance school in Guatemala City. The school offers a safe place where the they can develop their talents and can play an active and important role within the burgeoning hip hop movement. The development of their self-confidence and friendships will also effect other aspects of their lives. The chance that they will join a gang will be smaller and they will me more motivated to go to school.

Esther van der Zijden from the Netherlands is one of the initiators of AGH Trasciende. She works together with Edventure to show visitors another side of Guatemala City. Edventure offers a tour with Esther as Dutch/English/Spanish speaking guide in Zona 1 of Guatemala City. Together with kids from the breakdance school she'll give you a tour of the school and its neighbourhood and they share different and lesser known stories about the current Guatemalan society.
In addition, they will take you to visit projects illustrating how Guatemala City is trying to improve its neighbourhoods. Of course you'll have to chance to see a breakdance demonstration or to even participate in one!
