Destination 1, La Fortuna

The Arenal Volcano is one of the seven active volcanoes in Costa Rica and has been active every day since 1969. With a bit of luck you can see lava flowing down in the evening, a spectacular sight! The volcano therefore has become one of the top attractions in Costa Rica. At the foot of the Arenal, you find the village of La Fortuna with nice restaurants and bars. The area around the volcano is very fertile, hence the abundance of papaya, pineapple and sugar plantations.

Hotel
Around La Fortuna many hotels, hostels and lodges have opened their doors in recent years. You will stay in an excellent, brand new hotel where sustainability is of the highest importance. From your room you will have a spectacular view of the Arenal volcano.  
 
Activities
Visit the National Park Arenal Volcano where it’s possible to walk on the lava blocks and see the volcano up close. Furthermore, near Arenal is a nice waterfall where you can take a refreshing dive. Or go on a canopy tour and fly between the trees. In the evening you can relax in natural hot springs and with a bit of luck, see the lava flowing down again.

Destination 2, Tilaran
Via a wonderful journey over the winding road along Lago Arenal, or Lake Arenal, you will drive to your next destination, the little town of Tilaran. Take your time and perhaps a break in Nuevo Arenal and visit one of the best restaurants in the country, Gingerbread!

Hotel
You will stay in a cozy little hotel right beside the river. You can go swimming or rent a kayak to explore the river and the nearby Lake Arenal. The friendly American owner himself will prepare your omelet or pancakes in the morning for breakfast.

Activities
In and around Tilaran there is plenty to do. If you want something special, learn wakeboarding overlooking the Arenal volcano or rent a pedal boat and make a nice trip on the lake.
