WELCOME TO GUATEMALA

  • Maya ruins
  • Gateway to Central America
  • Breakdance!

Destination, Guatemala Stad
Many visitors do not stay in Guatemala City, but travel on to the nearby colonial Antigua. Nevertheless, Guatemala City (also called Guate) is an interesting city, partly built around 9000 years old ruins of the Maya city Kaminaljuyu. An important part of this ancient city is nowadays a park in the city center.
Guatemala City has always been important, also during the time of Spanish domination and it was here that the independence of Central America from Spain was proclaimed in 1821. Today, Guatemala City is the gateway to Central America as well as Mexico and the United States.
Guatemala is divided into different zones and the historic centre is Zona Una (Zone no 1). Here you can find the cathedral and the national library. In recent years the city has made successful efforts to renovate this part of town.

Hotel
Upon arrival, or the night before you fly back home, you will spend the night in a comfortable hotel in a quiet part of the city.

Activities
Visit the historic center of town or make a tour of Zona Una with kids from AGH Trasciende, a hip hop project which is supported by Edventure. To read more about this project, click here
